Teen Lust

Plot: An awkward high school student named Neil has to lose his virginity or else be sacrificed to the devil by the local Satanic cult.
KBZ’s Take: Raunchy Teen Comedy with a unique plot – the church in town is actually a Satanic cult. As you can imagine, there’s quite a few laughs to be mined from a teenager that needs to lose his virginity or be sacrificed. While the film hits on some laughs, it falls flat on others. However, the film is worth seeing for Cary Elwes hilarious role as the not-so-bright Satanic cult leader.

Plot: A trio of friend’s scheme to find a wife for their socially inappropriate friend Barry, and end up finding a girl just like him.
KBZ’s Take: Tyler Labine (Barry) is an actor, similar to Jack Black, in that people either love him or hate him. While he’s not quite on a Jack Black-level of funny, Labine still makes the film work as Barry with his crudeness and inappropriateness. The film is more of a Raunchy Romantic Comedy – a subgenre itself that started in the early 2010’s. Apart from Labine’s performance, Lucy Punch also delivers as an even funnier and raunchier female version of Barry.

Plot: Two guys make a pact to lose their virginity when one of the friends comes out as gay.
KBZ’s Take: This film is a case of ‘threading the needle’ as it’s subject matter (and comedic situations) will find people either loving the film or hating it. We thought it did a great job of taking a situation where a friend finds that his best friend is now gay and doesn’t stray away from the Raunchy and Sex Comedy theme of the film. That is an accomplishment as are the very funny sequences and situations found in the film. The film also sports a great comedic cast with Nicholas Braun, Hunter Cope, Dakota Johnson, Nick Offerman and Gary Cole. Highly recommended film of the subgenre.

Plot: When Kyle returns from his stag party with a sexually transmitted disease, he’s left unable to have sex with his fiancée Lydia in the run-up to their wedding.
KBZ’s Take: This British film is a Raunchy Comedy with quite a bit of Dark Comedy. At the core of the film are the bumbling friends played by Philip McGinley (Kyle) and Mark Stobbart (Jarvis). Their rapport throughout the film is often hilarious but with dark overtones. The film also has one of the better unique ‘twist’ endings that we won’t spoil for you. All we can tell you is to pay attention to the dialogue throughout the film for the somewhat shocking ending.

The Package

Plot: A group of teenagers are on a spring break camping trip when one of them accidentally cuts off his ‘prized possession’.
KBZ’s Take: We’ll start off with a warning that this is one of the Raunchier subgenre films out of any decade. With a premise that involves a teen getting his member separated from his body, you can imagine the type of jokes involved with this situation. And for the most part, The Package hits most of its marks with some very, very funny situations and dialogue. It’s definitely not a film for the squeamish so viewer beware.

Plot Three depressed college friends hope that partying in New Orleans for Mardi Gras will boost their spirits.
KBZ’s Take: This film starts off like similar ‘teens partying on Spring Break’ films but quicky does a U-turn around the second act. And the change is best for the film as it delivers some very funny scenes among the three friends – Nicholas D’Agosto (Mike), Josh Gad (Bump) and Bret Harrison (Scottie). This is a very Raunchy film and you won’t soon forget Gad’s performance in it – for better or worse.

Search Party

Plot: Two oafs must rescue their stranded pal in Mexico.
KBZ’s Take: If you’ve seen quite a few Raunchy Road Trip Comedies, then the plot of this film will likely be somewhat predictable. However, the cast helps it rise above your average Raunchy Comedy with some great performances by Adam Pally (Evan), T.J. Miller (Jason), Thomas Middleditch (Nardo), Alison Brie (Elizabeth) and smaller (yet hilarious) roles by J.B. Smoove (Berk) and Jason Mantzoukas (Hugo). If you’re a fan of The Hangover (2009) and its sequels, you’ll likely enjoy this film as well.

Jexi

Plot: Phil’s new phone comes with AI…that unexpectedly wants her all to himself.
KBZ’s Take: The Raunchy Sex Comedy cousin to the Joaquin Phoenix film Her (2013), Jexi has some hilarious (and hard R-rated outrageous laughs) in it. Adam Levine seems to have a “love him or hate him” rep but he’s great in this film especially once he realizes the AI on his phone has turned into a digital stalker and will stop at nothing to destroy his life.

Plot: A hyper-repressed and schlubby accountant (Jonas Chernick) strikes a deal with a worldly but disorganized stripper (Emily Hampshire): he’ll help her with her crushing debt if she helps him become a better lover.
KBZ’s Take: We had to include this little seen Canadian film on this list as we didn’t care for it much on first viewing but enjoyed it quite a bit more on a second viewing. There’s quite a bit of Raunchiness in this film – both direct and subdued – but the core of the film is about how sex defines a relationship.
Where most Raunchy Sex Comedies use a shock effect or gross-out humor during a sexual situation as a device for their Raunchy Comedy, this film focuses more on sex as the foundation in a relationship (and the comedic situations that occur as a result of wanting to learn how to be a better lover). Jonas Chernick (Jordan) is a very underrated comedic actor and his chemistry with Emily Hampshire (Julia) is some of the best of the entire subgenre. Highly recommended film for fans of the subgenre and if you’re looking for a Raunchy Romantic Comedy that has more serious sexual relationship humor.

Klown

Plot: Frank is left with the responsibility for his nephew Bo on an already planned canoe trip. Frank’s mate Casper is also coming along. Weighed down a with their obligation, Frank and Casper nevertheless look forward to ending the trip at Skanderborg Festival where there’s plenty there for the guys – a spree of drinking and women.
KBZ’s Take: The best way to describe Klown (and its two sequels) is that it’s a Raunchier version of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. And when we say “Raunchier” we mean there’s no line Frank Hvam (Frank) and Casper Christensen (Casper) won’t cross. There’s some taboo comedy in this film that would never be made by an American studio and yet it’s some of the funniest and raunchiest comedy you’ll see out of any subgenre film.
The film is based off the long running Danish sitcom called Klovn with most of the same cast and comedy from the series making it into the films. Though there isn’t a plot, the films are basically setup by an event or catalyst for the crazy (and very raunchy) adventures of Frank and Casper.
We’re fully aware that often times comedy doesn’t translate culturally, but this is one film where the comedy is universal as are the taboos Frank and Casper have no fear taking on. Highly recommended film and one of the best of the subgenre.
