Best Livestream Horror Films. In this special series of horror-themed articles, we’ll be reviewing the best films about screenlife horror and livestream horror. We created separate horror subgenres for these unique films based on votes by the KBZ YouTube community, and you can see all these films in our new collections for Screenlife Horror films and Livestream Horror films. For these articles, we’ll look at the best horror films where all the action takes place on a PC or mobile screen (Screenlife) and where events are livestreamed in a first-person view with real-time social media feedback (Livestream).

Livestream films are an offshoot of Found Footage horror that contain elements of both Screenlife films and Influencer (or social media) films. Often shot in a first-person view, livestream films will incorporate social media interactions on the screen that the live streamer interacts with in real-time. Horror elements of livestream films include typical found footage first-person jump scares and the psychological effects of social media (i.e. stalking, doxxing, community judging, etc.).

Though livestream films are a relatively new film subgenre, there have been quite a few exceptional livestream horror films from the last 10 years including Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018), The Cleansing Hour (2020) and Deadstream (2022).

Outlined below is a list of our planned articles for this series of articles as well as some past articles you might be interested in if you enjoy technology-related horror:

For our rankings we’re going to use some criteria to help define and refine our list. First, to better differentiate livestream horror from both screenlife horror and influencer horror films, the film must involve a significant amount of live first-person footage that incorporates real-time social media interactions.

Second, we’re going to exclude films involving Augmented Reality from our list that aren’t true livestream horror films including Let’s Be Evil (2016), You Die (2018), H0us3 (2019), Ghost Project (2023) and The Bridge Curse: Ritual (2023). You can find these films in our collection of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality films.

Third, though there is also some crossover between influencer horror and livestream horror films, we’re going to de-prioritize influencer films unless they feature a significant livestream theme. This will impact films such as Sissy (2022), Deinfluencer (2022) and Influencer (2023) which are all worth checking out, but are not true livestream horror films.

Fourth, we’ll be excluding livestream films that are more thrillers than horror films such as Infamous (2020).

Fifth, some films such as GirlHouse (2014) feature both elements of screenlife and livestream horror so will likely be featured in both of our articles.

And sixth, we had to follow our rule for all of KBZ’s film listings where we only list films that have a 4.0/10 or higher rating and were released after 1970.

Our complete list of Livestream Horror films features over 25 films from 2012 – 2026. You can also view our complete list of Techno Thrillers which features over 513+ films from 1970 – 2026 and will include any technology-related film. Films that didn’t make our list (and only for completists): Funhouse (2020), Followed (2020), Shook (2021), Livescreamers (2023), Live Stream (2023) and #No_Filter (2023).

Honorable Mentions: Girlhouse (2014), Like Me (2017), Superhost (2021), We’re All Going to the World’s Fair (2022), Bantay-Bahay (2024) and The Ghost Game (2025).

    #ChadGetsTheAxe

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: Four social media influencers live stream their trip to Devil’s Manor, the former home of a satanic cult, but things start to go wrong. As the violence increases, so do the views.

KBZ’s Take: One of the main draws of livestream horror films are the often-hilarious comments from social media users. #ChadGetsTheAxe is one of those films where the action on-screen is a bit predictable (if you’re familiar with found footage horror films) but the incorporation of the real-time reaction to the events on screen makes the film worth watching.

    #9
    Dashcam

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: At the start of the pandemic, an indulgent and self-deluded livestreaming improv musician abandons L.A. for London, steals her ex-bandmate’s car, and makes the fateful decision to give a ride to an elderly woman who is not what she seems.

KBZ’s Take: Dashcam has extremely divided opinions of the film mainly due to the annoying and abrasive lead actress Annie (Annie Hardy). We agree with the film’s detractors that the first half of Dashcam is almost unwatchable due to this character.

However, if you can make it past her grating personality and to the second half of the film, you’ll be treated to one of the crazier (and gorier) livestream horror films on our list. Note: There was also another film entitled Dashcam released around the same time. You’ll want to watch this film directed by Rob Savage.

    Livestream

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: As a team of livestreamers embark on a haunted house challenge, they quickly realize that the scares may be more real than they anticipated. With each twist and turn, they must navigate through the terror and fight to survive the night.

KBZ’s Take: Livestream isn’t one of the better films of this subgenre and tends to get repetitive and predictable as it goes on. However, like some of the better films on our list, the social media feedback on screen is worth watching for a few laughs.

Where to Stream / Buy: Amazon

    Clickbait: Unfollowed

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: A group of influencers are invited to a house for a competition with deadly consequences.

KBZ’s Take: It’s not often we feature Tubi originals on our list as they’re often low budget and low-quality genre efforts. Clickbait: Unfollowed is one of the better films from Tubi that features equal amounts of comedy and gore. There are some definite WTF moments in this film where you won’t believe they went there.

Where to Stream / Buy: Tubi

    #6
    Follow Her

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: An aspiring actress responds to a mysterious classified ad and finds herself trapped in her new boss’s twisted revenge fantasy.

KBZ’s Take: We’re now getting into some of the better films in the subgenre on our list. Follow Her is a surprisingly tense and twisted film that delves into the dangers of influencer culture and desire to be famous. Though the film doesn’t feature as much live first-person footage as other films on our list, it’s still an admirable effort worth checking out within the subgenre.

Where to Stream / Buy: Tubi

    #5
    Spree

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: Kurt Kunkle, a rideshare driver thirsty for followers, has figured out a deadly plan to go viral. As his disturbing livestream is absurdly embraced by the social media hellscape, a comedian emerges as the only hope to stop him.

KBZ’s Take: Spree is one of the more popular films on our list due to its very dark and comedic take on achieving celebrity in the internet age. Joe Kerry (as Kurt Kunkle) gives a knockout performance as the murderous rideshare driver who eventually meets his social media match.

    Follow Me

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: A social media personality travels with his friends to Moscow to capture new content for his successful VLOG. Always pushing the limits and catering to a growing audience, they enter a cold world of mystery, excess, and danger. When the lines between real life and social media are blurred, the group must fight to escape, and survive.

KBZ’s Take: One of the surprising films on our list, Follow Me (aka No Escape) effectively balances the draw of influencer celebrity with its dangers. Though you might think you know where the film is going during its first act, it takes a much darker (and unpredictable) turn as it progresses with a surprisingly twisted final. This is one of the films on our list we recommend watching if you’re a fan of the subgenre.

Where to Stream / Buy: Amazon

    #3
    Deadstream

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: A disgraced internet personality attempts to win back his followers by livestreaming one night alone in a haunted house. But when he accidentally pisses off a vengeful spirit, his big comeback event becomes a real-time fight for his life.

KBZ’s Take: Like screenlife horror films, some livestream horror films are uniquely dependent on the charisma and believability of the film’s main protagonist as the live streamer. And that’s where Deadstream ultimately succeeds with one of the funniest portrayals of a livestreamer in the subgenre by Joseph Winter (as Shawn).

This film has a lot going for it, from Shawn’s hilarious performance to some surprisingly effective scares (often filled with gore). But, if there’s one feature of the film we would recommend watching for, it’s the social media reactions on screen that are the best of the subgenre and provide a textbook example of doing a livestream film right.

    #2
    The Cleansing Hour

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: Two millennial entrepreneurs stage fake exorcism on social media until one of their girlfriends becomes possessed by a demon.

KBZ’s Take: One of the most original films of the subgenre, The Cleansing Hour ultimately asks, “What would a demon do in the age of social media?”. The film starts off as a horror comedy hybrid as the two entrepreneurs plan and perform their fake exorcisms. At this point, you might think you know where the film is going, but we can assure you, you’ll likely be wrong.

The film turns on the horror and gore spigot in the final act with an ending that is one of the most unique moments in livestream horror. It’s a lesser-known film of the subgenre that is definitely worth watching for any fan of livestream or social media horror.

    #1
    Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum

    Best Livestream Horror Films

Plot: An internet broadcaster recruits a handful of people for their experience at Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital, a place selected as one of the 7 freakiest places on the planet. They are to explore the haunted asylum and stream it live on their online show.

KBZ’s Take: Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum is already known as one of the most popular and scariest Found Footage Horror films, but it’s incorporation of live internet broadcasting makes it a natural fit for our list. Admittedly, the film doesn’t feature much real-time social media feedback like previous entries on our list, but we had to make an exception for Gonjiam as it’s a predecessor of sorts to the films that followed it.

This is a film that gets scarier as it progresses and is one entry on our list that is truly terrifying. Unlike other livestream horror films, there’s no comedy here as the film has a reputation as one of the scariest films of the 2010’s for good reason.
