A subset of Techno Horror (or Technology Horror), screenlife is a term used for films that typically take place on a computer screen or mobile phone and involve a video conference between multiple participants. While also using found footage elements, these films will usually focus on horrific events happening on-screen. Most of the action in these films will also appear on the computer screen as a person searches the web or for other internet-based information. Popular subgenre films include The Den (2013), Unfriended (2015) and Host (2020).
Note: Though the majority of films of this subgenre are horror-based, we have also included some of the best screenlife thriller films including Profile (2018), Searching (2018) & Missing (2023).
