Best Recent Films About AI. In this three-part series, we’ll be taking a look at a variety of technology-focused films from AI to Smart Homes to general technology thrillers. In this first article of the series, we’ll look at some of the best recent films about AI from Archive (2020) to the recently released Companion (2025).
In previous articles about AI films, we looked at the Best Artificial Intelligence Films and the Top Films About AI You Haven’t Seen. For this specific article, we’ll narrow our focus to films about AI that were released from 2020 to 2025. As AI continues its integration into society and our daily lives, it’s only natural that an increasing number of sci-fi films have focused on the benefits and dangers of artificial intelligence. There have been some great recent films covering AI so we’ll outline them all below, so you don’t miss out.
Before we delve into our list below, we have included links to other AI-related articles that you might be interested in along with the upcoming articles in this three-part series:

For our rankings we’re going to use some criteria to help define and refine our list. First, the film must first and foremost be about AI. A film such as Alien: Romulus (2024) will be included on our list though it will rank lower as it’s not specifically about AI. On the flip side, a film such as The Artifice Girl (2023) will be ranked higher as it’s entirely about AI.
Second, films about robots and AI typically go hand in hand. However, we’ll deprioritize films about robots that don’t get into specific issues about AI. This will affect two different examples of films featuring robots. A film such as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) is a great action film with robots but has little to do with AI so won’t be on our list. Conversely, Previously Saved Version (2024) does have some minor themes about AI but is much more about ethical and moral situations involving robotic cloning. However, it is an interesting film so we will list it in our honorable mentions section below.
Third, we’re going to prioritize some lesser known (and often lower budgeted) films that explore some interesting aspects of AI. These are films such as A Hard Problem (2021), The Artifice Girl (2023) and Levels (2024) that fans of AI will likely find intriguing and interesting.
And fourth, we had to follow our rule for all of KBZ’s film listings where we only list films that have a 4.0/10 or higher rating and for this list, were released after 2020.

Special Mention: Black Eyed Susan (2024). We felt we needed to address this film in this article as it’s a film about AI that tackles a very difficult subject – an AI sex doll manufactured for domestic abuse. It’s a film that’s disturbing and very difficult to watch but covers some aspects of AI that other films won’t touch. So be warned that the film falls within the Exploitation Film subgenre and features very graphic sexual situations and violence. Where to Stream / Buy: N/A
