In 19th-century New Zealand, Dorothea (Jennifer Ward-Lealand) hires brooding hunk Lawrence (Kevin Smith) to use his charm to forestall a marriage between her sister and her no-good suitor. Lawrence agrees, but only because he harbors a hidden, burning love for Dorothea, and he will do anything to be near her. However, Dorothea is already entangled with a secret lesbian lover, Anne (Lisa Chappell). Dorothea, Lawrence and Anne try to conceal their passions, but the charade can only last so long.
