At the dawn of World War II, Spanish Army lieutenant Pepe (Santiago Ramos) brings his younger brothers, 8-year-old Jesus (Lucas Martin) and 16-year-old Manolo (Jorge Sanz), to a children’s sanitarium on the Portuguese border to wait out the war. The oldest boy at the hospital by several years, Manolo begins his passage into manhood first by developing a crush on the beautiful nurse Vicenta (Violeta Cela) and then falling for local teen Maria Jesus (Maribel Verdú).
