Winny

In 2002, Isamu Kaneko created the file-sharing software Winny and released a trial version on the web. Winny allowed direct data exchange between users and quickly gained popularity. However, it led to a surge in illicit downloads, which gradually became a societal issue. As individuals involved in copyright violation were successively arrested, Kaneko was also suspected of facilitating and supporting copyright infringement and was arrested in 2004.
