Best Recent Films About The Multiverse. In this special series of sci-fi-themed articles, we’ll be reviewing the best time travel-related films from time loops to alternate realities. This series will cover the best recent films (since 2020) that feature people traveling forward or back in time, experiencing the same day repeatedly and living in an alternate reality or multiverse version of our world.
This is another series of KBZ articles and videos based on votes by the KBZ YouTube community, and you can see all these films in our collections for Films About Time Travel, Films About Time Loops, Films About Alternate History and Films About The Multiverse. If you’re not a fan yet of our YouTube channel, now is a good time to have your voice heard if you have specific ideas for subgenres or film themes you’d like KBZ to cover.
In past articles focusing on the multiverse, we covered some of the Top Films About the Multiverse You Haven’t Seen that included obscure gems such as Tempting Fate (1998) and The Chasing World (2008) to the Best Multiverse Films that featured classics of the subgenre including Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022).
As a refresher, films about the multiverse involve people traveling to or living in parallel worlds and alternate realities. Multiverse theory suggests that there are an infinite number of similar worlds to our own where differences in those worlds are based on a variety of factors – typically different decisions a person might have made in the past.
For this article, we’ll narrow our focus down to recent Multiverse films from 2020 – 2026. As the subgenre has increased in popularity over the years, there are quite a few films to choose from that were released over the last 5-6 years – some great, some good and some not worth your time. However, we’re going to single out the best recent films about the multiverse and parallel words that every fan of the subgenre should enjoy.
Before we get onto our list, we also wanted to highlight the current articles planned for this series as well as past KBZ articles that should be of interest to any fan of time travel, time loops or parallel universes and the multiverse:

For our rankings we’re going to use some criteria to help define and refine our list. First, the film must specifically be about the multiverse or parallel worlds. We’ll specifically look for films where people live in a world similar to our own or where a person’s past decisions show how different versions of their life would have been, based on past decisions.
Second, though we have a separate collection specifically dedicated to Alternate History Films, we will include films from this subgenre that have themes of the multiverse for our list here. Films about alternate history typically deal with major events in history that have changed – such as the Nazis winning World War II in Fatherland (1994) – whereas films with themes of the multiverse will usually focus on personal decisions by an individual that lead to changes in their life in their existing world or parallel worlds.
Third, we’re only selecting films that were released from 2020 – 2026. However, we did want to call out some of the great subgenre films here that were released in 2019 such as Love at Second Sight (2019), Happy Death Day 2U (2019), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Yesterday (2019). These are some of the best films of the subgenre that we highly recommend checking out.
Fourth, the more the film focuses on differences in a multiverse world, the higher it will rank on our list.
Fifth, we aren’t including any animated films or anime about the multiverse on this list, but we will create a separate article and video for this series that specifically focuses on the Best Recent Animated Multiverse Films from 2020 – 2026.
And sixth, we had to follow our rule for all of KBZ’s film listings where we only list films that have a 4.0/10 or higher rating and for this specific list, were released after 2020.
Our complete list of Multiverse films features over 178+ films from 1970 – 2026. You can also view our complete list of Time Travel films which features over 300+ films from 1960 – 2026 and our complete list of Alternate History films which features over 141+ films from 1968 – 2026 both of which will likely include a film you might not see on this list.
