Mary Gray (Cheryl Ladd) is a farmer’s wife living in turn-of-the-century Minnesota. Largely ignored by her infertile husband Jonathan (Ted Levine), Mary struggles with a deep sense of loneliness. Jonathan, fearful of having no son to carry on the family name, concocts an odd plan: He suggests that his brother, Aaron (Lewis Smith), be allowed to impregnate Mary. But the plan backfires when Mary and Aaron begin to fall in love with one another.
